Introduction

The default state of the brain and mind is usually not a blank or empty one, but rather one where past, present, and new stimuli are represented internally. These representations, we call them thoughts, ideas, and when attached to physiological responses, feelings and sensations. There’s variety, yes, with hallucinations and dreams for instance, characterized as being fake or happening during our sleep, respectively.

What all these states in the brain share is their internal and private nature, contributing significantly to a more or less universal or shared definition of consciousness.
